I like to have a Martini
two at the very most.
After three I'm under the table,
after four I'm under my host!

(Dorothy Parker, sometime in the 1920s)

Whether shaken or stirred is not even a question when it comes to the Martini. This goes without saying — and it has even found its way into popular culture. Generations of James Bonds reel off their "shaken, not stirred" from film to film. Sometimes cool, sometimes elegant, sometimes bored.

For this recipe, there is no choice anyway. The cucumber juice and the other ingredients need to be inseparably blended together. And that simply only works with a hearty shake.
