ROOTS Sour
The Lehner family recently came to us. Werner and Christine are among Austria's pioneers in sweet potato cultivation, and they wanted to create a premium-class vodka from this tuber — a favourite of ours too. We were more than happy to take on the challenge.
Josef has many passions when it comes to schnapps, but his first true love is vodka. His expertise is well known beyond Austria's borders and has led to collaborations such as KABUMM and Red Spring Vodka, among others. Vodka — the world spirit — is distilled almost exclusively from wheat or rye, and less commonly from potatoes. Made from sweet potatoes, it remains a genuine rarity. All the more delightful, then, that ROOTS Bio-Vodka — barely distilled and on the market — was immediately recognised with an award, once again confirming our vodka expertise! And with Gold at the World Spirits Award 2021 – Simply the Best in Spirits, no less!
Here's a recipe featuring this speciality made from the sweet tuber!
Ingredients:
3 cl fresh lemon juice
2 cl sugar syrup
1.5 cl egg white
Shake all ingredients vigorously and strain through a fine sieve into a chilled glass. Pro tip: Garnish with dried orange/grapefruit.
