Historic Walls
The "Vierkanter Gottes" — the spiritual and economic heart of the Mostviertel for over 900 years.
Walls that have stories to tell.
The Benedictine Abbey of Seitenstetten was founded in 1112 — and has never stopped drawing people in. Pilgrims and wayfarers came here seeking reflection, while merchants and farmers made the abbey the economic centre of the region.
Today, guests come wanting to understand how a place stays alive across nine centuries.
The "Vierkanter Gottes" is no museum — it is a living monastery, home to monks who still live, pray and work here to this day. As you walk through, you can feel how spiritual and secular life have intertwined within these walls across the centuries: from the Baroque abbey church and the magnificent Marble Hall to the library adorned with frescoes by Paul Troger and the Romanesque Knights' Chapel.
History you don't read about — you step into it.
